This year, the Southbank Center in London, home to the Royal Festival Hall, presents a series of concerts around the themes of belief and beyond. A subject that is found in each of the three works chosen by the EIC for the event: Bhakti, a vast cycle of Buddhist inspiration by Jonathan Harvey; Hermès V, by Philippe Schœller, a recent work on the mythological figure of the god Hermes; And finally … explosive-fixed … that Pierre Boulez composed (in several times) “in order to evoke Igor Stravinsky – to ward off his absence”. Like a musical spell to invoke the spirit of the composer disappeared in 1971.
